How Do Scratch Tickets Work in Canada?

Scratch tickets are printed in fixed quantities with a predetermined prize structure. Each print run has a known number of top prizes, second-tier prizes, and smaller prizes. Once printed and shipped, the total pool is fixed.

Odds are published, not predictive

When a lottery corporation says a ticket has "1 in 3.5 overall odds", that means one in every 3.5 tickets in the print run wins **something** — often just the ticket price back. It does not describe your odds of winning a top prize.

Prize depletion

As major prizes are claimed, remaining-prize counts drop. That does *not* mean the remaining tickets are more likely to win.
